Welcome to Reception LL

Hello I am Mrs Leigh and I am the Class teacher Miss Imran and Miss Steadman are your teaching assistants.  We offer a warm welcome to all children and parents joining Reception. We are delighted with how well the children are settling in and we look forward to an exciting and fun year ahead.

In Reception we have two classrooms, Reception LL and Reception CW we share the outdoor area.

All continuous provision areas in the classroom are well resourced and enhanced according to the current topic.

At the start of the day the children gather together for a small group phonic session in phonic groups.  The children come back together for literacy or mathematics based carpet session. The children then access continuous provision in the classroom or outside with a focused activity each session. During the continuous provision the children will be assessing a variety of different challenges in the areas, throughout the week when the children have completed the challenge they will move along the challenge chart, if they reach the gold at the end o the week they will receive a prize.

During the afternoon session the children start with a topic based carpet time and access the continuous provision indoors and outdoors. With a focused activity.  During the week the children visit the computer suite on a Friday morning.

Each child will bring home a reading book and a home school book. Please can you complete the set activities in the home school book with your child and return to their class teacher by the following Wednesday. These books will be shared during circle time.

Mrs Leigh will keep a very special learning journey for all the children. This folder will follow your child’s journey through reception and will contain, work, pictures and observations of your child. You will be invited in once a half term on a Tuesday afternoon at 2.55  to view your child’s learning journey, notice of this will be posted on our outside door.

Our topic this half term is all about me. We will listen to a variety of different stories including Funny Bones. Billy and the Baby, Oliver’s Fruit Salad and Oliver’s Vegetables. In maths we will be looking at measuring and talking about size, learning to recognise numbers to 20, counting to 20 and one more and one less from numbers to 10.

Our topic work will include making faces and naming parts of the face, making moving bodies, learning about our senses, talking about celebrations, and healthy eating.

We look forward to working with your child and helping them progress on their learning journey.  If you have any questions regarding your child’s time Reception, please contact me.
