Welcome to Reception W

Dear Parents and Children,

Welcome to Reception. I am Mrs Wright and I am the class teacher. Miss Imran is our Teaching Assistant who will be working with and supporting the children. We offer a warm welcome to all children and parents joining Reception. We are delighted with how well the children are settling in and we look forward to an exciting and fun year ahead.

In Reception, we have two classes, Reception HP and Reception CW.

We also have an outdoor area which we use every day in any type of weather so please make sure the children are dressed appropriately for the weather. On rainy days, children should wear a raincoat and, if you wish, can bring wellington boots in a bag to change into during outdoor play. On colder days, children should wear coats, hats, scarves and gloves and can bring wellington boots or black boots in a bag to change into during outdoor play. In sunny, warm weather children should wear sunhats and sun cream should be applied at home.

At the start of the day the children gather together for a phonic session. The children then go back into classes for a literacy or mathematics thematic based session. After carpet time, the children then access learning through the different areas of the learning environment inside and outside. We call these areas Continuous Provision. The children will also take part in focussed group work with an adult either inside or outside. During the afternoon, the children start with carpet time and then access the Continuous provision indoors and outdoors with a focused activity. During the week, the children visit the computer suite and take part in physical activities on the playground.

Each child will bring home a reading book and a home school book. Please listen to your child read daily, this is very important and makes a big impact on their reading skills and enjoyment of books, and let us know by signing the form. Please support your child by helping them to complete the set activities in the home school book and then return it to their class teacher by the following Wednesday. I will keep a very special learning journey for all the children. This folder will follow your child’s journey through Reception and will contain, work, pictures and observations of your child. You will be invited in once a term to view your child’s learning journey.

We look forward to working with your child and helping them to learn and achieve.

If you have any questions regarding your child’s time in Reception, please contact me.

Thank you for your continued support.

Mrs Wright
