On behalf of Ashton West End Primary Academy, I would like to welcome you to our website. I hope it will give you a flavour of our wonderful academy.  We are very proud of our school, our pupils, and their successes.

We are a two-form entry primary academy: this means that we have two classes per year group. There are 15 classes with a total intake of 437 pupils (September 2024). Over a number of years, the academy has made improvements in pupils’ achievements and progress, raised standards across the school and has improved the quality of provision. However, we recognise the work of completing standards is never complete and we always strive for better. In September 2022, we updated our curriculum; moving to a more up-to-date knowledge-based approach to learning that is reflective of our pupils as 21st century learners. We place a strong emphasis on British values in both the curriculum taught in classrooms and across the school. With this, we aim to help create learners who are interested and interesting global citizens who also embrace modern, diverse British culture and values.

‘Pupils are happy to attend this warm and welcoming school. Leaders take extra care to support those pupils who join the school with English as an additional language. Relationships between staff and pupils are positive. Staff expect pupils to behave well in lessons and during social times. Pupils easily live up to these expectations. This helps to create a calm and purposeful atmosphere throughout the school.’ (Ofsted July 2023)

We aim to provide our pupils with the experiences, knowledge and academic skills to inspire them to become successful life-long learners. We want our pupils to be proud of the work they produce in our school, and this is underpinned by our motto: ‘Today I am proud of my school, tomorrow my school will be proud of me.’ Pupils enjoy learning at our school. As part of our continual drive to improve standards, staff at the academy regularly speak to pupils about their learning. Through pupil voice, our pupils have been able to tell us exactly what they like about learning at our school.

In recent years, we have made many improvements to the academy building in order to improve the learning and teaching environment. We have had extensive work undertaken to improve the external and internal areas of the academy. In August 2020, our EYFS classrooms were renovated and updated. We now have an open plan spacious 60 place reception classroom and a large 52 place morning and afternoon nursery. We have also had three new outdoor EYFS areas improved. In September 2021, our library space and catalogue were rejuvenated to create an exciting space to read exciting books. In August 2023, we had our school kitchen fully refurbished which provides nearly 300 hot meals each day to our pupils. We are also currently extending the school building to provide more intervention rooms for our pupils to learn in. This work is expected to be finished in December 2024.

We actively encourage parents to become involved in their children’s education. Our school is well-resourced with talented and committed staff. Parents are welcome at our school; this is clear from the number of parent workshops we hold. In addition to this, we also have ‘Stay and Play’ sessions in our early years, school fairs and special events such as coffee mornings where we invite parents into school to spend time with their children (and we raise money for charity). We also play an active role in the local community: raising funds for charities affecting families of local people; visiting our local places of worship and inviting the police to visit our school, run assemblies and meet our pupils. Working together as a school family, we can ensure that children are both happy and successful at school.

We hope that you enjoy your visit to our website and that you find the information you are looking for. Please feel free to contact the academy with any queries you may have.
