Welcome to Reception HP

I am Miss Parker and I am the class teacher. Miss Imran is our teaching assistant who will be helping us with our learning. We offer a warm welcome to all the children and parents in Reception. We are delighted with how well the children are settling in and are looking forward to an exciting and fun year ahead.

In Reception, we have two classrooms, Reception HP and Reception CW.

We also have an outdoor area which we use every day in any type of weather so please make sure the children are dressed appropriately per the weather. On rainy days, children should wear a raincoat and if you wish can bring wellington boots in a bag to change into during outdoor play. On colder days, children should wear coats, hats, scarves and gloves and can bring wellington boots or black boots in a bag to change into during outdoor play. In sunny, warm weather children should wear sunhats and sun cream should be applied at home.

All continuous provision areas in the classroom are well resourced and enhanced according to the current topic.

At the start of the day the children take part in a phonic session. Following this the children will have a literacy or mathematics based carpet session. The children then access continuous provision in the classroom or outside with a focused activity.

During the afternoon session, the children start with a topic based carpet time and access the continuous provision indoors and outdoors which includes a focused activity.

The children will visit the computer suite and the library on a Friday morning.

Each child will bring home a reading book and a home school book. Please can you complete the set activities in the home school book with your child and return to their class teacher by the following Wednesday. Library books are to be returned to school by Friday.

Each week the children will take it in turns to take home the class bear, Teddy and his bag. In Teddy’s bag, there is a dairy for you to write and draw and/or add photographs of your adventures with teddy over the weekend. Teddy and his bag containing all his things must be returned to school on a Monday so that we can share your adventures with the rest of the class and prepare Teddy for his next adventure.

Miss Parker will keep a very special learning journey for all the children. This folder will follow your child’s journey through reception and will contain work, pictures and observations of your child. You will be invited in once a half term on a Wednesday afternoon at 2.55pm to view your child’s learning journey and take part in activities with your child. A notice of this will be posted on our outside door.

Our topic this half term is all about me. We will listen to a variety of different stories including Funny Bones. The New Royal Baby, Oliver’s Fruit Salad and Oliver’s Vegetables. In maths we will be looking at measuring and talking about size, learning to recognise numbers to 20, counting to 20 and one more and one less from numbers to 10.

Our topic work will include making faces and naming parts of the face, making moving bodies, learning about our senses, talking about celebrations, and healthy eating.

We look forward to working with your child and helping them progress on their learning journey.
If you have any questions regarding your child’s time Reception, please contact me.

Thank you for your continued support.
